Building Sales Using A Winning Sales Process

Prospecting Sometimes the issue with poor performance is nothing to do with ability but just not having a process to follow. It could simply be that a person is seeing the wrong prospects. Some of the questions to ask at this stage include: Where do you store your existing client information? How do you analyse the potential for further business from the client or though referrals might exist? Where do you store information for prospective clients? How do you analyse this information in terms of deciding where the potential for future business might exist? What do you know about your competitors and which existing and potential clients might be using their services? The effect of asking these questions of your staff, or even yourself, is to stimulate the thought process in ...

Even As It Appears To Be In Dire Straits The NRA Could Be Winning Its Long Game

Robert Spitzer, State University of New York College at Cortland No observer of contemporary gun politics could fail to notice a jarring disconnect between the two very different trajectories of the gun rights movement today. On the one hand, more states are allowing Americans to carry weapons in public without permits, and the gun-rights movement could be on the verge of a major Supreme Court victory. On the other, the National Rifle Association, which advocates on behalf of gun owners, faces an existential crisis that’s mostly due to the NRA’s own missteps. As a political scientist who has studied gun politics and policy for over 30 years, I’m confident that there is no precedent for this contradictory situation. Moreover, there’s no reason to believe that the NRA’s problems will inf...

Using Data In Sports For These Students, Is About More Than Winning Games

When professional sports teams use big data and analytics, their objective is to improve player performance and win more games. That approach is paying off in a major way. For instance, after the Golden State Warriors became one of the first NBA teams to invest in analytics, the team subsequently won league championships in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Analytics is the science of looking for patterns in data to make more informed decisions. The Warriors also get regular assists from partners in Silicon Valley – the famed tech hub near where the team is based. For that reason, it’s a small wonder why, in 2016, the Warriors were recognized at a sports analytics conference as the “Best Analytics Organization.” National Football League teams rely heavily on data as well. For instance, the Philadelp...

Remembering Nobel Prize-Winning Chemist Mario Molina, Who Pushed Mexico On Clean Energy, Face Masks

Dr. Mario Molina, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist who died on Oct. 7 at age 77, did not become a scientist to change the world; he just loved chemistry. Born in Mexico City in 1943, Molina as a young boy conducted home experiments with contaminated water just for the fun of it. But Molina came to understand the political importance of his work on atmospheric chemistry and ozone layer depletion, which won him the Nobel in 1995, along with Paul J. Crutzen and F. Sherwood Rowland. Getting that surprise call from Sweden completely changed how he saw his role in the world, Molina said in 2016. He felt a responsibility to share his knowledge of clean energy, air quality and climate change broadly and to push decision-makers to use that information to protect the environment. As a Mexican, Dr...
