Influencer Marketing Is Now Bigger Than Digital Ads

Everywhere you look people are online looking at their phones and interacting with different social platforms. If you haven't noticed we are surrounded by influencer marketing on all four sides. We inhale and exhale influencer marketing constantly every day and still many of us are not fully aware of what it really is. While the world is modernizing and the people's voice growing, we have broken through into a new era of digital marketing, a more natural type of marketing done through influencers. Influencer content may be framed as testimonial advertising where they play the role of a potential buyer themselves, or they may be third parties. It identifies the individuals that have influence over potential buyers and orients marketing activities around these influencers. "Marketin...

Payment Apps Generate Bigger Gratuities When Asking For Specific Tips Before Service Annoying – The Heck Out Of Users

Asking customers to leave specific tip amounts before food is delivered or provided prompts larger gratuities but also leads to lower satisfaction – especially if the payment page design is crowded, I found in new research I co-authored. My colleagues and I conducted three studies and a survey to explore how consumers are responding to the use of tip suggestions on digital payment devices. All participants for the study were recruited via the crowdsourcing website Mechanical Turk and were required to have eaten out or experienced a similar service in the past 12 months and left a tip. Study participants were shown either a payment interface with suggested tip amounts or simply an optional box. Fan, Wu, Liu (2022) In our first study, we asked 134 people to imagine themselves ordering a lar...

Kids are bigger coronavirus spreaders than many doctors realized – here’s how schools can lower the risk

The first U.S. schools have reopened with in-person classes, and they are already setting off alarm bells about how quickly the coronavirus can spread. Georgia’s Cherokee County School District, north of Atlanta, had over 100 confirmed COVID-19 cases by the end of its second week of classes, and more than 1,600 students and staff had been sent home after being exposed to them. By the third week, three of the district’s high schools had temporarily reverted to all-online learning. Schools in Mississippi, Tennessee, Nebraska and other states also reported multiple cases, quarantines and temporary school closures. Deciding whether to open schools for in-person classes during a pandemic is a complex decision. Children often learn better in school, where they have direct contact with expert t...

African Americans take on more debt for grad school – but the payoff is also bigger

African Americans take on greater debt than whites to earn an advanced degree. Does the payoff make it worth it? When seeking graduate and professional degrees, African Americans take on over 50% more debt than white students. On the upside, African Americans also see a bigger payoff to earning such degrees. Whether or not that payoff is enough to make up for the additional debt burden is unclear. These are some key takeaways from a study we released in January 2020 in the journal Sociology of Education that examined graduate school debt. We are researchers who study issues of inequality and disadvantage in education. Our findings come at a time when there is an ongoing public debate about whether higher education is worth the cost. We believe these debates represent a paradox for Afric...
