SoftBank’s message to entrepreneurs: profits matter

Message by founder and CEO Masayoshi Son, who invests heavily in startups, underscores decision to oust WeWork chief. Masayoshi Son, long known as a free-spending benefactor who encouraged startup founders to pursue their dreams even if it meant losing billions of dollars, had a different message for entrepreneurs last week: Your dreams had better be profitable. The chief executive officer of Japan's SoftBank Group Corp. told company leaders gathered at the five-star Langham resort they need to become profitable soon and stressed the importance of good governance, according to a person who attended the event. Public investors aren't going to tolerate gimmicks, like super-voting rights or complicated share structures, that privilege founders over other stakeholde...

Black Lives Matter Is Making Single Moms Homeowners

In Louisville, the group is purchasing vacant homes for low-income families to promote stability in the community and fight gentrification. In May, Tiffany Brown and her children will move into a new home in the historic Black neighborhood of West Louisville, Kentucky. A single mother of three, Brown has spent most of her adult life in public housing. Her first shot at homeownership comes courtesy of a new project by the Louisville chapter of Black Lives Matter to help provide permanent housing to transient families and low-income single-mother households like hers. She had recently relocated to Section 8 housing because of involuntary displacement in her previous location, the result of ongoing practices of segregation and unequal access to housing based on race. The B...

Documents show US monitoring of Black Lives Matter

Recently released FBI and DHS documents reveal how the US government sees the movement as a potential threat. Black Lives Matter protests have been monitored by the US government and have been seen as a potential threat, according to recently released documents from the FBI and the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The documents, which include internal emails and field reports, were circulated among law enforcement agencies in 2016. They were obtained as the result of a lawsuit filed by the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and the civil rights group Color of Change (COC) and provided to Al Jazeera. Black Lives Matter (BLM), which started as a response to US police killings of unarmed black individuals in 2014, has grown into a movement fighting to end systemic violence again...

Black Lives Matter: A Movement of Deception

First, I encourage everyone to go the #BlackLivesMatter website and read the "About Us" and "Herstory" pages. Please read "the call to action" by the women who created the #BlackLivesMatter slogan and who affirm, "We are working to (re)build the Black liberation movement." What I found interesting is the point the women made in the "Broadening the Conversation" section which stated, "Progressive movements in the United States have made some unfortunate errors when they push for unity at the expense of really understanding the concrete differences in context, experience and oppression." To that point, their statement reminds me of the beginnings of a well-known terrorist organization who called themselves "kuklux" which understood the concrete differences in context of the post civil war ...

Why We Need to Say Black Lives Matter

I'm going to give you an analogy here. It's not a perfect analogy, because I'm using the example of children, and Black Lives Matter is not only about children, by a long shot. Here's the scene: You're a white parent of a white boy, now in his junior year of high school in a town of mostly white people. This is a town where kids start in school with each other and are with the same kids all the way through high school-basically, a closed system. In testing all through school, your son came out just as smart as everyone else, and somewhat smarter than some. The minute your son stepped into kindergarten, almost all the other kids thought it would be fun to tease him until he cried. This went on all through kindergarten, elementary school, middle school. The teasing turned to name-calling, ...

Why Black Lives Matter

July has been a tough month for America. The deaths of both Alton Sterling and Philando Castile at the hands of police have increased racial tensions once again. Protests, largely in affiliation with the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, have popped up in vast numbers across the nation. While most of the protests have remained peaceful, things took a violent turn in Dallas when a sniper opened fire on police officers, killing five and injuring seven. Many opponents of BLM have pointed to the group as the cause of the officers' deaths. But from the start, BLM has been a non-violent movement. In fact, it's an intellectually fueled movement focused on justice and equality. The movement officially began back in 2013 after George Zimmerman was acquitted in the death of unarmed black teenager ...

Black Lives Matter Labeled A Terrorist Organization

Black Lives Matter Isn't A Terrorist Organization In America - Says Its Founders It's the opinion of Lance Winslow that It Is. Read what he has to say about Black Lives Matter. The other day, as an investigative reporter and think tank founder, I contacted some of the leadership of Black Lives Matter after I'd been involved in the petition to get BLM (Black Lives Matter) designated as a terrorist group - merely because their activities do fit the actual definition of terrorism; threatening violence to force political change. The leadership vehemently denied such allegations and refuted the Oxford Dictionary - claiming "white bias" which is silly, although perhaps it was a white man who had founded the Oxford Dictionary Team long ago. The Founder of BLM got on CNN and stated he ...
