Why Black Lives Matter

July has been a tough month for America. The deaths of both Alton Sterling and Philando Castile at the hands of police have increased racial tensions once again. Protests, largely in affiliation with the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, have popped up in vast numbers across the nation. While most of the protests have remained peaceful, things took a violent turn in Dallas when a sniper opened fire on police officers, killing five and injuring seven. Many opponents of BLM have pointed to the group as the cause of the officers' deaths. But from the start, BLM has been a non-violent movement. In fact, it's an intellectually fueled movement focused on justice and equality. The movement officially began back in 2013 after George Zimmerman was acquitted in the death of unarmed black teenager ...

Black Lives Matter Labeled A Terrorist Organization

Black Lives Matter Isn't A Terrorist Organization In America - Says Its Founders It's the opinion of Lance Winslow that It Is. Read what he has to say about Black Lives Matter. The other day, as an investigative reporter and think tank founder, I contacted some of the leadership of Black Lives Matter after I'd been involved in the petition to get BLM (Black Lives Matter) designated as a terrorist group - merely because their activities do fit the actual definition of terrorism; threatening violence to force political change. The leadership vehemently denied such allegations and refuted the Oxford Dictionary - claiming "white bias" which is silly, although perhaps it was a white man who had founded the Oxford Dictionary Team long ago. The Founder of BLM got on CNN and stated he ...

Shonda Rhimes: Black Lives Matter not to blame for Dallas cop deaths

Shonda Rhimes hit back at those who have blamed the Black Lives Matter movement on the murders of five police officers in Dallas on Thursday.“If I hear one more idiot suggest that #BlackLivesMatter incited this… The level of ignorance is stunning. Just absolutely stunning,” she wrote on Twitter. On Friday, police identified Micah Xavier Johnson as the shooter in the attack. He was not affiliated with the protest or Black Lives Matter movement, but was upset over the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, both of whom were fatally shot by police officers this week. According to Dallas Police Chief David Brown, Johnson “wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.” He was killed by officers after the attack (three other suspects remain in custody). Pillars of Black Media, Once Vibrant, Now Fighting for Survival

For the black community in Chicago and elsewhere, Johnson Publishing Company represented a certain kind of hope. The company’s magazines, most notably Ebony and Jet, gained prominence during the struggle for civil rights — Jet published graphic photos of the murdered black teenager Emmett Till that helped intensify the movement — and made it their mission to chronicle African-American life.At a time when much of the media was ignoring black people, or showing them primarily in the context of poverty or crime, Ebony and Jet celebrated their success, featuring stars like Muhammad Ali and Aretha Franklin on their covers. When Barack Obama was elected president in 2008, the first print publication he granted an interview to was Ebony. So when Johnson Publishing, which is based in Chicago, announ...

LGBTQ Activist Demands Reparations for All ‘Fat, Black’ Women

According to a piece on an “intersectional feminist media” website, “fat, black” women are owed reparations due to the “trauma” that comes with being one.“The case for reparations for fat Black b******  is: f*** you, pay us,” self-described “queer, agender Black fat femme writer, artist, and cultural producer” Ashleigh Shackelford writes in a piece for Wear Your Voice.#ad#Now, although Shackelford is discussing black women in particular, she also makes sure to clarify that this, unlike the case for slavery reparations, is an issue specifically tied to weight:  “I see thin femmes and women (of all races, actually) who are offered protection and care in ways fat black bitches are never granted,” she writes. “Our dehumanization is used to humanize everyone else in the entire world, but no one...

‘Three black teenagers’ Google search sparks outrage

SAN FRANCISCO — Google image searches for "three black teenagers" and "three white teenagers" get very different results, raising troubling questions about how racial bias in society and the media is reflected online. Kabir Alli, an 18-year-old graduating senior from Clover Hill High School in Midlothian, Va., posted a video clip on Twitter this week of a Google image search for "three black teenagers" which turned up an array of police mugshots. He and friends then searched for "three white teenagers," and found groups of smiling young people. "I had actually heard about this search from one of my friends and just wanted to see everything for myself. I didn't think it would actually be true," Alli told USA TODAY. "When I saw the results I was nothing short of shocked."   Source: ...
