Why Is It Always Women Who Must Improve, When It Comes To Dating Advice?

“Therapy-speak” advice on relationships and dating is widely available outside of the psychotherapist’s office. Much of this advice places responsibility on women for managing their emotional reactions to problematic dating and relationship experiences. The advice women are given about dating, relationships, and finding love largely falls into three categories. 1. How to not attract emotionally unavailable men Instagram is full of relationship advice that tells women to take responsibility for their “healing”. It advises them on attachment styles, co-dependency, and emotional wounds, as well as how to deal with avoidant and narcissistic partners. Such advice varies in quality from patronising and exploitative, to nuanced and compassionate. Some of this advice is helpful, much of it is not...

Social Media Always Remembers – Which Makes Moving On From A Breakup That Much Harder

Before the internet, people commonly burned Polaroids and love letters in a fire as an act of closure following a breakup. Nowadays, it isn’t so simple. People produce and consume massive amounts of digital stuff – 33 trillion gigabytes of online data in 2018 alone, a number that has surely grown. Even as more and more of daily life is experienced and documented online, there’s no playbook for how to navigate breakups in the digital age. In the past, if bonfires weren’t your thing, you could simply throw out love letters, gifts and photographs, or put them in a box and store them in the attic – out of sight and out of mind. Now, as you scroll through your accounts, you might find yourself returning to your own memories – including reminders of your former partners, which live on long af...

Kissing In A Dream Isn’t Always What You Think

We humans show our affection and love for one another, and our passion through a kiss. A kiss can soothe, calm and even magically heal -a child will feel all better after their boo-boo is kissed. In many cultures, but especially in Western cultures, a kiss is often the most intimate physical expression, sometimes considered more intimate even than sexual intercourse. It's pretty much common knowledge that prostitutes rarely kiss their clients on the mouth. This is because the kiss is recognized as a show of love and tenderness, and the services provided by a working girl (or guy) is little more than a business transaction. In Christian societies, a kiss may also be an act of betrayal, such as the betrayal of Christ by the kiss of Judas. A kiss may also mark the beginning of the end of som...

Does Someone Always Have To Win?

The words sound inviting enough. 'Darling, it's a lovely day, let's go for a bike ride in the country'. But what starts out as a pleasant few hours together may all too quickly turn sour if one person can't bear to come 'second' and is in desperate need of being the fastest, fittest, always having to win every stretch of the journey. You may remember coverage of the race where the runner in second position saw the person in front of him stop, clearly thinking that he'd crossed the finishing line. Not wanting to win the race that way he pushed the man in front over the finish line, afterwards saying he felt that it was the right thing to do. How exhausting is it when someone always has to be right and win? - Some people always need to have the last word, not realizing that over time th...

5 ways life would be better if it were always daylight saving time

In my research on daylight saving time, I have found that Americans don’t like it when Congress messes with their clocks. In an effort to avoid the biannual clock switch in spring and fall, some well-intended critics of DST have made the mistake of suggesting that the abolition of DST – and a return to permanent standard time – would benefit society. In other words, the U.S. would never “spring forward” or “fall back.” They are wrong. DST saves lives and energy and prevents crime. Not surprisingly, then, politicians in Washington and Florida have now passed laws aimed at moving their states to DST year-round. Congress should seize on this momentum to move the entire country to year-round DST. In other words, turn all clocks forward permanently. If it did so, I see five ways that America...

The 70s were full of free love, and we love these bodacious booty clips from Pam Grier, Linnea Quigley, Goldie Hawn, Nastassja Kinski, and Bo Derek.
