Attorneys: Ronnie Shumpert Killing ‘A Modern Day Lynching’

A Mississippi police officer has been accused of shooting and killing an unarmed Black man and allowing a police dog to mutilate him. The incident occurred after the man ran during a routine traffic stop. Antwun "Ronnie" Shumpert was pulled over by Tupelo Police Officer Tyler Cook around 9:30pm on June 18, ThinkProgress reports. According to attorneys, the 37-year-old father of five immediately exited his vehicle and ran for unknown reasons. The officer then released a K-9 who found Shumpert hiding under a nearby home.
