So Your Ex Boyfriend Doing The No Contact – How To Emotionally Handle This

"My ex boyfriend is doing no contact, I miss him so much!" That begins many conversations that women have in the days following their break up. They wake up one day, text their ex boyfriend, try to call him and then make the difficult realization that he's following the no contact rule. The knowledge that the man you still love is purposefully ignoring you is a bitter pill to swallow. It's harsh and it's real. It stings and it can leave a woman obsessed with the broken relationship and what she can do to fix it. It's natural to feel overwhelmed and incredibly worried when you come to terms with the fact that your ex is no longer talking to you. Instead of panicking, there is a better way. Acceptance is going to help you immeasurably and may even be the key to getting him to come back to yo...

The Role Of Relationship Therapists & Counselors

Adults are embarrassed about sex because of their emotional insecurities. Our emotional needs include a need to impress, a need to belong and a need to be valued. Some people lack self-esteem, which stems from anxiety. Women tend to be much less confident than men, which is quite natural. We avoid discussing relationship issues for various reasons. We want to avoid conflict. We don't want to admit that we have behaved badly, that we have said things we shouldn't have or that we were wrong. We may want to continue behaving in a way that suits us but that we cannot justify logically. The suggestion that women can enjoy sexual pleasure through intercourse in erotic fiction (and the sexual bravado of both sexes in society) drives everyone's interest in any story that suggests intercourse might...

The Dating Jungle: How Men And Women See Each Other When Online Dating

In the world of online dating, nothing is as it seems. But that doesn’t stop many of us from leaping to the wrong conclusions about people. A recent paper presented at the Annual Conference of the International Communication Association and reported on in the press suggested that when evaluating photographs from online dating profiles, men and women judge enhanced and un-enhanced photos somewhat differently. Enhanced photos, those in which a person has used makeup, hair styling, filters, or post-editing, were rated by both men and women as more being attractive. But while women also rated men in these photos as more trustworthy than in ordinary photos, the opposite was true of women: men rated women in enhanced photos as less trustworthy. One theory posits that “what is beautiful is good”,...

In Cape Town Tinder Use Reveals The Paradox Of Modern Dating

Dating apps are the new reality, but do they really make dating easier? My study suggests they complicate it further. Questions about trust and online dating regularly crop up along with headlines about unpleasant online approaches, scams and even physical assaults when dates move offline. Still, dating apps like Tinder remain hugely popular, downloaded and used mostly on cellphones to meet new people. In fact, they have received increasing traffic globally in recent years despite these bleak stories and spurred by COVID-induced lockdowns. My ethnographic research in Cape Town, South Africa, shows that Tinder dating is riddled with contradictory feelings. As an anthropology scholar who is curious about intimacy and apps, I followed the dating journeys of 25 Tinder users for two years. I so...

Just A Good Time Or A Long Time? Dogs In Dating Profile Photos Reveal Men’s Commitment Levels

Men and women who are seeking relationships online are asked to indicate what they want in a relationship, whether they are seeking “just friends,” “uncommitted relationships” or “long-term leading to marriage.” There’s an art to creating profiles, including uploading photographs to prompt a potential mate to indicate interest. People can describe themselves and their ideal relationship in a wide variety of ways, sometimes less than honestly, including exaggerating characteristics that they think are desirable. Most people do not dramatically lie, however. Instead, they use minor deceptions or small exaggerations. Altering photos by using filters is a common way to improve one’s portrayed physical appearance. However, online dating companies have been taking a hard stance and not permitt...

Sending Flirty Text Messages – The 7 Golden Rules

Is there anything more nerve-wracking than coming up with a creative text message for somebody you're interested in? You try and try but everything seems like a version of "nice meeting you." You've got Texter's Block. You're as nervous as Paris Hilton on Jeopardy. You're shaking like a martini. What do you do? Relax. Remember the Seven Golden Rules of Flirty Text Messaging and you'll be blowing up their phones with witty, funny text messages that'll make them want to know you better. 1) Do Not Send Open-ended Texts. Here's the very worst one you can send: "Hey, what's up?" You may as well have texted: ""Would you mind coming up with something interesting to say because I'm so freakin' boring the plaster peels off the wall when I talk to it." 2) Create Value With Your Texts. Interest, smil...

A&A: How To Attract Gamer Girls – Tips To Help Your Quest

Male gamers are considered nerdy and lack social skills especially when it comes to women. On the internet, you will find hundreds of memes making fun of male gamers and their inability of stopping the game in order to interact with the hot girl next to them. What many people don't know is that male gamers have the right qualities that can enable them to interact with any beautiful woman of their choosing. The only problem is that the virtual world is more exciting than the real world. Blowing up stuff, sawing off the head of a zombie, flying fighter jets, running around the field in a soccer game as well as racing exotic cars are some of the things gamers are into more than women. Let's face it, male gamers have feelings they would love to share and even make better memories. To do so, on...

Is Love Losing Its Soul In The Digital Age?

Instagram users have taken to issuing “weekiversary posts,” where they diligently mark the duration of their romances. An article in The New York Times explained how weekiversary posts have the unintended – or very much intended – consequence of shaming people who are not in love. The article also noted that this phenomenon makes some doubt the intensity of their own relationship. They wonder why their partners are not similarly starry-eyed and gushing online. Some even admitted that this phenomenon prompted them to stay in relationships longer than they should have: they go on celebrating their weekiversaries, just to keep up appearances. In truth, this could apply to any of the social media platforms, where people increasingly feel the need to act their lives in real time in a public for...

Behind The Belief In A Soulmate

The United States appears to be in a romantic slump. Marriage rates have plummeted over the last decade. And compared to previous generations, young single people today are perhaps spending more time on social media than actual dating. They are also having less sex. Despite these trends, a yearning for a soulmate remains a common thread across the generations. Most Americans, it seems, are still looking for one. According to a 2017 poll two-thirds of Americans believe in soulmates. That number far surpasses the percentage of Americans who believe in the biblical God. The idea that there is a person out there who can make each of us happy and whole is constantly conveyed through portrayals in films, books, magazines and television. What accounts for the persistence of the soulmate ideal in ...

Life-Hacking Your Way To Love

There’s never been a shortage of dating advice from family, friends and self-help authors. Yet in the digital age, people are turning to nerdy hacker-types as guides. At first, they might seem like an odd source of romantic advice, but think again: Computer programmers created the systems of quizzes, swipes and algorithms that millions rely on for matchmaking. Who better to explain how to make the most of these digital tools? This new approach to dating takes advantage of the power of data. “Quantitative futurist” Amy Webb, for instance, created a handful of fake accounts depicting the types of men she wanted to marry and learned what her highly-rated competitors’ profiles looked like. After applying these insights to her own profile, she became the most popular woman on JDate, an online d...
