What Role Should Business Gifts Play In A Marketing Campaign?

Business gifts have come a long way over the past couple of decades. Gone are the days when corporate gifts were only rolled out at Christmas and restricted to cork backed coasters and plastic rulers. The market is more sophisticated both in terms of what can be supplied but also in the expectations of purchasers. But what can business gifts do to improve the success of a marketing campaign? Well there are three fundamental things to consider when choosing a promotional gift; your company, your promotional campaign, and your target audience. 1) Your Company Any marketing campaign must be appropriate to your company, reflecting what it stands for and projecting its values. For example, don't choose confectionery if you are a health food company - this is an obvious example but reflects ma...

What Do The Polls Say, And Can We Trust Them This Time As The Election Campaign Begins?

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called the federal election for May 21. What do the polls say, and how do we know if they are accurate? There have been five national polls conducted since the March 29 budget. Newspoll gave Labor a 54-46 lead, a one-point gain for the Coalition since mid-March, and Ipsos a 55-45 lead (its first poll since the 2019 election). Morgan gave Labor a 57-43 lead, a 1.5-point gain for Labor since the previous week. Essential’s “2PP+”, which includes undecided voters, gave Labor a 50-45 lead (48-44 two weeks ago). Analyst Kevin Bonham estimated Resolve would be about 55.5-44.5 to Labor from the primary votes, a 1.5-point gain for Labor since mid-February. If these poll results were repeated on election day, Labor would easily win a majority in the House of Repr...

White House Launches Investigation As Bitcoin Cleanup Campaign Began

Nexus Media News As the White House opens a request for information on whether digital assets “impede or advance efforts to tackle climate change,” a new campaign launched to “Change the Code Not The Climate.” Multiple climate groups and a billionaire are launching the effort to pressure those invested in Bitcoin to lessen the massive environmental impact of the cryptocurrency. Some argue that’s an impossible goal and would only further entrench the already-wealthy’s hold over the system, and would likely still be incredibly inefficient and not be much better than the previous system. Bitcoin mining already consumes as much power as Sweden, and in some cases is keeping open coal and methane gas power plants that would otherwise or have already been shuttered, solely to fuel the compute...

Maybe The End Of The Pandemic, What’s In A Name For A Vaccine Campaign?

Nearly 50 million people in the U.S. had received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine by March 1, and millions of others have spent hours online trying to get an appointment. But soon, the demand could fall because of vaccine hesitancy. How is the government going to get people on board? From my research, I have found that an important part of a successful vaccine campaign is in the name. As a health communication scholar who studies the history of epidemics, I have been interested in the naming and public delivery of the COVID-19 government response. In many ways, this moment parallels crises of the past, as people in previous epidemics and pandemics also struggled to find ways to protect themselves against deadly disease. Abandoning the ‘Operation Warp Speed’ name In the week ...

Pell Grants are getting their due in the 2020 campaign

Just as it did in the 2016 election, college affordability has become a critical issue in the 2020 election. One key difference, however, is unlike in the 2016 election, which was largely devoid of any talk about increasing Pell Grants for students from low- and moderate-income families to pay for college, this time around Pell Grants are part of the discussion. Leading Democratic candidates – Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren and, most recently, Joe Biden – have floated their own proposals. Biden’s plan – released in October 2019 – distinguishes itself from those of his competitors, however, by recognizing the important role that Pell Grants do and should play in paying for higher education. Biden has proposed to double the maximum Pell Grant award from its current level ...

Ben Carson suspends his 2016 presidential campaign

The retired neurosurgeon said he looked at the delegate count, "did the math" and "simply realized it wasn't going to happen"Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson announced Friday that he's suspending his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. "There's a lot of people who love me, they just won't vote for me," Carson said at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Carson said he decided to drop out after he looked at the current delegate count, "did the math" and "simply realized it wasn't going to happen." "If that's the case, I didn't want to interfere with the process," he added. The conservative physician had his moment in the spotlight in 2015, but after the primary race began in earnest in January, Carson fell seriously behind. The outsider candidate failed to garn...
