The Amazing Benefits Of Pilates

There are many exercise you can do but few focus on the core, breathing and control like Pilates. Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century. It is practiced all over the world especially in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The Principles of Pilates Breathing: Full inhalation and complete exhalation are encouraged and deemed important when doing Pilates exercises. What To Consider While Exercising During Pregnancy

While exercise is often said to be safe to do while pregnant, with so much information out there, it can be hard to figure out just how much exercise you should do – and if there are certain exercises to avoid. Exercise is good for the mother and her baby, but given all the changes that happen to the body during pregnancy, it is advisable to take it a bit easier when exercising. One of these changes is how our cardiovascular system functions. Because the baby needs a constant supply of oxygen to develop – and because of how quickly it grows – the mother will experience a 45-50% increase in blood volume to carry this much-needed oxygen to the baby. The mother’s heart rate also increases to ensure the baby gets enough oxygen. This could put an extra strain on the woman’s heart and lungs w...

Men, Women, Kids And Adults In Developed Countries Are All Moving Less – A Boom In Fitness Trackers Isn’t Leading To A Boom In Physical Activity

Worldwide sales of fitness trackers increased from US$14 billion in 2017 to over $36 billion in 2020. The skyrocketing success of these gadgets suggests that more people than ever see some value in keeping tabs on the number of steps they take, flights of stairs they climb, time they spend sitting and calories they burn. The manufacturers of these devices certainly want consumers to believe that tracking fitness or health-related behaviors will spur them on to increase their activity levels and make them healthier. Our analysis of research published over the past 25 years suggests otherwise. We are professors of kinesiology – the science of human body movement – at Boise State, the University of Tennessee and the University of North Florida. To learn whether and how physical activity ha...

The Cultural Obsession With Six-Pack Abdominals

The cultural obsession with six-pack abdominals shows no signs of abating. And if research into male body image is to be believed, it will likely only grow, thanks to social media. Today, there’s an entire industry centered on obtaining – and maintaining – chiseled abs. They’re the subject of books and social media posts, while every action movie star seems to sport them. Pressure is also mounting on women to sport six-pack abs as body ideals for athletic women have evolved. All of this raises the question, when did the six-pack craze start? It may seem like a relatively recent phenomenon, a byproduct of the fitness culture boom in the 1970s and 1980s, when Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rambo reigned, and men’s muscle mags and aerobics took off. History proves otherwise. In fact, Western c...

Are Our Exercises Aging Us?

Do I look younger because I'm black? To answer this complicated question, it would be cool to let you know why I am addressing this question. A while back I was asked by a client why I look younger than my age, this client had concluded that me looking younger had to do with my background or race. So, I said that's interesting because I know quite a few people of the same race that don't look younger than their years. She believed that there were always "exceptions to the rule". This got me thinking and observing closer and I discovered that this was in fact not the case. If anything it was coincidental that a certain number of black people she had met did look youthful. I even argued the fact that dark skin hid certain blemishes or wrinkles that lighter skin didn't. Which was true, an...
