Are Our Exercises Aging Us?

Do I look younger because I'm black? To answer this complicated question, it would be cool to let you know why I am addressing this question. A while back I was asked by a client why I look younger than my age, this client had concluded that me looking younger had to do with my background or race. So, I said that's interesting because I know quite a few people of the same race that don't look younger than their years. She believed that there were always "exceptions to the rule". This got me thinking and observing closer and I discovered that this was in fact not the case. If anything it was coincidental that a certain number of black people she had met did look youthful. I even argued the fact that dark skin hid certain blemishes or wrinkles that lighter skin didn't. Which was true, an...

Make America Bike Friendly

For too long, biking has been viewed skeptically as a white-people thing, a big city thing, an ultra-fit athlete thing, a 20-something thing, a guy thing, a warm weather thing, or an upper-middle class thing. But times are changing. More than 100 million Americans rode a bike in 2025, and bicycles have outsold cars most years in the U.S. since 2003. Latinos bike more than any other racial group, followed by Asians and Native Americans. African Americans and whites bike at about the same rate. Most bicyclists are low-income, according to census figures—as many as 49 percent of bike commuters make less than $25,000 a year. From 1990 to 2012, bike commuting tripled in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Portland. We still have a long way to go to make a bike-...

Money Can’t Buy Everything, Specially Not Fitness, You Gotta Earn It

It's long been said that money can't buy everything and most will agree if they are truly being honest throwing silliness aside. Money can't buy you true love. Money can't buy back your youth or bring back loved ones that have passed on. And additionally, money can't buy fitness no matter how much you shell out of your pocket. To make that point clear, all the money in the world cannot automatically create that perfect physique regardless of how much you are willing to pay. Sure money can pay for a private gym membership or even allow you to build your own gym in your backyard. Money will also allow you to hire a 24 hour a day personal trainer along with a chef to be at your beckoning call whenever you need a healthy meal prepared. Money can also pay for weight reduction surgeries or "...

Push Through Or Give Your Body A Rest

Should I exercise if I’m still sore from last time? If you’re feeling sore from a run or gym session, you might wonder whether it’s better to push through or give your body a rest. This achy or stiff feeling in your muscles after exercise is known as “delayed onset muscle soreness” (DOMS). Soreness usually sets in within the first 12–24 hours after your exercise session, and often peaks 24–72 hours after. In most instances, DOMS will disappear completely in three to five days. But what should you do in the meantime? Is it OK to exercise if you’re still sore? Here’s what the evidence says. Why do muscles get sore after a workout? When you exercise, tiny tears (also called “microtears”) occur in your muscles. Then, as your body floods the area with fluids and nutrients to repair t...

The Push For The Perfect Muscular Body

Social media’s push for the perfect muscular body is fuelling a new form of disordered eating — and young men are most at risk From celebrities and influencers to everyday people, social media is full of content that showcases perfectly toned, muscular bodies – and how to achieve them. 6 Safety Tips For Summertime Joggers

The key is to run sensibly! A disagreeable notion, perhaps, to take a jog during summer months when temperatures soar? The key is to run sensibly. Road Runners Club of America offers this sound advice: 1. Stay hydrated: Pre-hydration with a few glasses of water before running is advised, then carry a bottle or wear a hydration pack and sip at least every 20 minutes. Rrca.org recommends weighing yourself before and after running and, to determine proper hydration, “you should have drunk one pint of fluid for every pound you’re missing. Indications that you are running while dehydrated are a persistent elevated pulse after finishing your run and dark yellow urine. Keep in mind that thirst is not an adequate indicator of dehydration.” 2. Pay attention to the day’s air pollution and humidit...
