Gardening And Astrology

Spring has finally sprung here in the West and it’s that seed-planting time of year, thank heaven. Now, one may immediately ask, why in the world would I consult Astrology to make the best out of how I interact with Mother Nature herself?

Look no further than to the mighty energy of the Moon. Our PLANET that governs over the nighttime skies when all sorts of mysteries occur is the one to consult when you want to PLANT. You already know how the Moon, as far away from Earth as it already is, controls our ocean’s tides. But did you know that the magical Moon also has a significant nurturing affect upon the growing ability of things that humans come in contact with? You bet it does….

Let’s begin with the simple understanding of the Waxing and Waning phases of our Moon. A Waxing phase of the Moon begins each month upon the New Moon when it is empty and void of light as it passes through the darkness of the evening sky. Thus this represents in the Lunar understanding, the ideal time for new beginnings to be put forth. For the two weeks to follow, whether it be in your garden or any event in life, the Waxing phase of the Moon as it gathers light night after night gives those initiations the perfect opportunity to flourish.

As the Moon reaches its’ complete luminous intensity upon the Full Moon, it then starts the Waning cycle, when it then begins to lose its’ light, and time for reflection is naturally granted to us month to month. Optimally we can reassess things already put into play, change things around, and figure out what improvements we may need to make adjustments for. Typically, things started in life under a waning phase do not have the same strength behind them that things do that are began under the Waxing phase.

You can look right to Mother Nature herself and see how this magical formula works. She will always be right in time with the Moons’ ever-changing moods. Thus, when humans decide to do some planting of their own, being adherence to the planet that guides the inner forces of life is a smart place to look in Astrology to allow anything from simple flower-pot planting to a vast garden to be grand.

In the late 1800s, a man arrives in a remote country village to investigate an attack by a wild animal but discovers a much deeper and sinister force that has the manor and its townspeople in its grip.

Our Moon zooms around the Zodiac wheel while visiting each of the 12 signs in only 28 and a quarter days, thus having to change into a different astrological sign every 2-3 days. With the understanding that each of our 12 signs are categorized into the 4 elements of fire, earth, air and water- this is the basis of how one can determine what sign the Moon is passing through is the best one to plant under to make sure that a successful eventual harvest will be the end result. Couple this knowledge with the combination of a Waxing Moon phase and voila!

You’ll find the fertile signs under a Waxing Moon are the earth and water signs: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces. Logically our Earth is made up of land and water, where those roots always find the place to sink deep into. So, as the Moon gathers light, it strengthens the initial foundation the roots of any seeds planted under these signs to be especially strong. Even under a Waning phase, if something must be transplanted or seeded, choosing to do so under the Moon’s passage through an earth or water sign will give it an extra boost.

Now fire and air signs: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius- please don’t feel left out! We all know without light and air humans and vegetation alike would cease to exist. It’s just that your energy does not permit the initiation of things that need to be rooted in the ground securely with all that expansion and optimism you have. Never forget that your part in the growth process is equally important as it brings forth the light and spirit all living things need to continue to grow and remain alive. As the Moon transits through your energies- tasks like weeding or preparing the garden to plant are completely safe to do. Especially under the Waning Phase, the Moons’ energy while in these signs is the most appropriate to spent time with the earth and labor with the taking away what no longer is necessary.

So Dear Stars, while Spring waits for no one, you better get out there and grab your Lunar Calendars and look forward to seeing your gardens grow to the highest heights with this handy astrological tip!
